Significance

Ezetimibe is a cholesterol absorption inhibitor that is used to treat atherosclerosis. The small-scale formal synthesis of ezetimibe depicted features the use of a Cu(I)-mediated Kinugasa cycloaddition-rearrangement cascade between alkyne A and the nitrone B to generate the β-lactam ring.
