Significance
Optically active 2-amino-4H-chromenes can be found in a number of interesting, biologically active molecules. By combining salicylaldehydes, malononitrile, and indoles with a chiral Lewis acid catalyst, the authors can prepare members of this family in a highly efficient asymmetric reaction.
