In-Promoted Approach to Synthetic Equivalents of Hydroxyacetone Enolates

Significance

Herein, the authors describe the ­diastereoselective indium-promoted synthesis of anti-α,β-dihydroxy ketones protected as enol carbonates. These initial carbonates may either be deprotected, furnishing the free dihydroxy ­ketones, or be converted into the corresponding cyclic carbonates. Those protected forms give way to further synthetic manipulations.
