Verhaltensstörungen bei Pferden

Summary

Behaviour problems in horses can be distinguished into two areas: unwanted behaviour and disturbed behaviour including stereotypies. A distinction in these areas is important because they differ in cause, therapy, and prognosis. The therapy of unwanted behaviour is comparatively easier but the learning behaviour of the horses has to be considered. This is very important in attention seeking behaviour. Stereotypic behaviour that has existed for many years is usually resistant to therapy. Structural changes in the brain during the development of stereotypic behaviour are the reason for this. The prognosis will be better if the underlying causes are detected and corrected as early as possible.
