Summary
Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is discussed controversially, especially in the context of evidence-based veterinary medicine (EBVM). This paper provides an overview of the principles and aims of EBVM and the currently available scientific data on CAM therapies. To sum up, short rigorous research data concerning the efficacy and safety of CAM is presented. Moreover, possible research strategies with regard to important aspects of CAM are discussed.
