„Fehler“ sind ein häufiges Problem in der Medizin: von 3846 Patienten erleidet während
eines Krankenhausaufenthalts mindestens einer ein Schadensereignis mit invalidisierenden
oder gar tödlichen Konsequenzen. Gerade die Chirurgie ist durch den invasiven Charakter
ihrer therapeutischen Maßnahmen für Fehler anfällig. In diesem Artikel wird der „Fehler
in der Chirurgie“ beleuchtet. Dabei werden Klassifikation, juristische Aspekte, Ursachen,
Folgen sowie Analyse- und Präventionsmöglichkeiten besprochen. Wichtige Ansätze zur
Fehlervermeidung sind dabei aus den Bereichen der Luftfahrt, der Automobilindustrie
und der Kernenergie hervorgegangen.
