Abstract

ERCP should be preceded by EUS and / or MRCP due to serious complications which are increased considerably when the procedure is extended by precut or pancreatic sphincterotomy. The patient has to be informed in advance about the increase in complication rates especially if diagnostic purposes are still intended. Pathologic elastase test in stool is no indication for diagnostic ERCP in a young female patient with a BMI of 39.
