Mental Health Nursing – ein Mythos

Zusammenfassung

Zwar hat sich das Konzept des Mental Health Nursing (der Pflege der psychischen Gesundheit) in den letzten 25 Jahren weltweit verbreitet, trotzdem bleibt die Abgrenzung zum Psychiatric Nursing (der psychiatrischen Pflege) unklar (Cutcliffe und Ward, 2006). Mental Health Nursing ist ein Mythos. Dieser beschreibt, wie Pflegefachkräfte gerne wären, ist jedoch eher eine professionelle Sehnsucht als praktische Realität. Die meisten Texte und Gespräche über Mental Health Nursing sind reine Ideologie: Die gesammelten Ideale und sozialen Wünsche des Fachgebiets. Wären die Pflegefachkräfte in der Lage, diese Ideologie umzusetzen, würden sie das Fachgebiet transformieren. Und sie könnten dazu beitragen, auch das Leben der Menschen mit einer beeinträchtigten psychischen Gesundheit zu verändern.
