Zusammenfassung
Die Alterung der Gesellschaften des westlichen Kulturkreises stellt die jeweiligen Gesundheitssysteme vor große Herausforderungen. Die Zunahme des Anteils älterer und hochaltriger Patienten erfordert eine Anpassung der Versorgungsstrukturen, was bereits zunehmend durch die Einrichtung geriatrischer Akut- und Rehabilitationseinrichtungen verbunden mit einer „Geriatrisierung” der gesamten Medizin geschieht.
