Significance

In this work, the development of an activated sp²-sp³ mixed-hybrid diboron reagent for the boration of α,β-unsaturated compounds is reported. This copper-catalyzed reaction proceeds under mild conditions and tolerates a variety of functionalities, such as nitriles, esters, ketones, and aldehydes. As neither copper-stabilizing additives nor boron-activating agents are required, this protocol is very economic and suitable for base-sensitive substrates.
