Synthesis of 1,3-Thiazoles from Nitrostyrenes and Aromatic Thioamides

Significance

Reported is the synthesis of fully substituted 1,3-thiazoles by the formation of an α-aryl-β-nitrostyrene epoxide from the corres­ponding nitroolefin and its subsequent reaction with an aromatic thioamide. Although the reaction sequence occurs in one pot, it was optimized as separate reactions, which were then combined and further optimized.
