Significance
The synthesis of chiral and achiral piperazinium bearing ionic polymers is described. The authors use the ring opening of a pyridinium moiety as a vehicle for the formation of these helical polymers. The resulting polymers are obtained with moderate molecular weights (4600-7640 g/mol) and in good yields (72-92%).
