Significance

The authors synthesized chromo­phores with high two-photon absorptivity, based on a hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene (HBC) π-conjugated core. Herein, the synthetic difficulty of cyclodehydrogenation of the precursor with donors/acceptors (step e) was overcome, and the resulting chromophores, especially HBCNO2, exhibit large two-photon absorption (TPA) cross-sections.
