Significance

A series of asymmetrical [2.2]paracyclophane-based macrocycles have been synthesized with the key step being the condensation of diamino[2.2]paracyclophanes and glyoxal. The absolute configurations of the resulting helicenes have been determined by X-ray crystallography and circular dichroism spectroscopy.
