Significance

The scandium(III) zeolites were prepared and found to promote the cyclocondensation of aryl imines with alkenes. Thus, Sc(III) zeolites [Sc(III)-USY 1] were obtained from commer-cially available NH4USY in three steps [Δ550 ˚C; Sc(OTf)3; Δ350 ˚C]. The [4+2] cycloaddition of cyclopentadiene (4a) with N-benzylideneaniline (6a) generated from 2a and 3a was carried out in the presence of Sc(III)-USY 1 (5 mol% Sc) to give the adduct 5a in 96% yield.
