Significance

Streptorubin B is a prodigiosin alkaloid that has been isolated as a red pigment from a strain of actinomycetes. The structure has been previously disputed due to the molecule’s complex atropisomerism, but the authors have determined the absolute and relative stereochemistry via X-ray crystallography and CD spectroscopy.
