Significance

A versatile gold-catalyzed oxyarylation of alkenes with yields of up to 85% is reported. The gold catalyst (Ph3PAuCl) is commercially available and the arylsilanes are readily prepared. Selectfluor is used as oxidant to access the active gold(I/III) catalyst and at the same time it activates the silane by providing a fluoride anion. The formation of the Si-F bond provides the thermodynamic driving force.
