Significance

A direct C4-selective addition of pyridine across alkenes via nickel/Lewis acid ­cocatalysis has been described. The method ­proceeds highly regioselectively furnishing the ­linear 4-alkylpyridines in modest to good yields. Branched 4-alkylpyridines are obtained when ­styrenes are used.
