Significance

A Grob-type C-C bond fragmentation of β-keto cycloalkanones using polyols under mild conditions giving polyesters bearing Michael acceptors is described. The validity of this method is also demonstrated by preparation of the fourth generation dendrimer through fragmentation thio-Michael addition sequences.
