Significance

A new proline-based ligand has been developed for the asymmetric arylation of aldehydes. The preparation of the catalyst is straightforward; the initial Heck arylation with arenediazonium salts in the presence of palladium proceeds nicely and further manipulation affords the final amino alcohol ligands. The diastereomers produced can easily be separated generating a useful ligand library.
