Significance

Regioselective β-alkylation of ­pyrroles is achieved based on simple indium-­catalyzed reactions. Primary, secondary, and ­tertiary alkyl groups can be introduced by using readily available carbonyl compounds and nucleophiles. The reaction is proposed to proceed via the dipyrrolylalkane intermediate 5.
