Significance

A chiral N,N′-dioxide/La(OTf)₃ complex catalyzes the sulfa-Michael reaction of thioglycolate and chalcones. The reaction is particularly intriguing due to the asymmetric amplification of the reaction: excellent enantioselectivity is observed using only 2% ee of the ligand.
