Significance

Having previously reported the synthesis of arsenic- and antimony-containing cryptands, the bismuth-containing cryptand now being reported, is one of the first prepared via the self-assembly reaction described above. The ‘transmetalation’ of the antimony-containing cryptand provides facile access to a stable, phosphorous-containing cryptand with phosphorus now taking the place of the metal.
