Significance

Reported is the l-proline-catalyzed multicomponent synthesis of non-symmetric dihydropyridines. The reaction appears to be remarkably unaffected by electronic or steric considerations, as evidenced by only modest variations in yield when moving among different substrates. However, when 4-nitrobenzaldehyde was used the reaction temperature required an increase of the temperature to 50 ˚C and the time to 24 h.
