Significance

One-pot reactions allow for the rapid synthesis of complex molecules without requiring the isolation of intermediates. The authors present a method for the synthesis of highly substituted tetrahydrofurans by rhodium(II)-catalyzed OH insertion of aryldiazoacetates into allylic alcohols, followed by base-induced intramolecular 1,4-addition. The products are formed as single diastereomers.
