Significance

The authors report on the hydrophosphination of unactivated internal alkynes and allenyl phosphine oxides using phosphine borane complexes. The methodology represents a significant advancement to the scope of hydrophosphinations employing such reagents. The authors also demonstrate the power of this methodology in the expedient synthesis of chiral mono- and bisphosphines which have important applications as ligands in asymmetric catalysis.
