Significance

Xu, Dixon and colleagues report an asymmetric organocatalytic relay cascade reaction, which combines three substrates (1, 2 and 3) and two different catalysts (4 and 5) in the same pot to generate polysubstituted cyclohexanes. As expected for a multistep process in which several steps are asymmetrically catalyzed, excellent enantiomeric excess was obtained for the products while diastereoselectivity was moderate.
