Practical Arene Hydrogenation by Heterogeneous Catalysts

Significance

Reduction of arenes and hetarenes into the corresponding saturated derivatives is an important method for the synthesis of functionalized cyclohexanes as well as pharmacologically important heterocycles like piperidine. The authors developed a practical and simple protocol for the hydrogenation of arenes and hetarenes ­under relatively mild conditions, suitable for a broad variety of functionalized substrates.
