Significance
Excited-state energy transfer is critical for a number of important applications, including sensors, organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), and photovoltaics. This paper reports the synthesis of self-assembled coordination polymers, comprised of oligofluorene moieties and aluminum(III) bis(8-quinolinolate)acetylacetone moieties. Energy transfer between the various subunits occurs at the rate of 10¹¹ s-¹. These results are in good agreement with the improved model of Förster for the energy transfer developed by Beljonne (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2005, 127, 4744).
