Significance

RK-397 is an antibiotic isolated from a Japanese soil bacterium. It showed some antifungal and antibacterial activity along with ­cytotoxic properties towards certain human leukemia cells (50 mg/mL activity). For a total synthesis of RK-397 see: S. E. Denmark, S.
