Significance
The authors report the synthesis of a novel series of oligodiacetylenes of defined lengths (1-n). These highly soluble molecules were systematically studied for the relationship between conjugation length and optical properties. The authors conclude that the oligodiacetylenes are rigid rod-like molecules in solution reaching up to 4 nm in length.
