Präventions- und Interventionsansätze bei Cybergrooming. Ein Narratives Review
Prevention and Intervention Measures for Cybergrooming. A Narrative Review
Abstract
Introduction Although cybergrooming has gained increased attention in research and forensic practice, research into prevention and intervention measures for both victims and offenders of cybergrooming has been sparse.
Objectives The present narrative review offers a short and cohesive overview of the existing measures and approaches from related fields.
Methods Using Google Scholar and the reference lists of previously identified publications, 18 publications were included in the present review. These works were published between 2007 and 2024.
Results Overall, primary and secondary prevention measures appear to be aimed primarily at victims of cybergrooming, with an emphasis on psychoeducation often including parents and teachers in the prevention process. Public campaigns aimed at (potential) offenders could be useful in creating a stronger consciousness for the legal framework of cybergrooming as well as the presence of low-threshold therapy programs. The anonymity of the internet and the easy accessibility for a variety of (illegal) content, seem to be central catalysts for the cybergrooming process. Effective prevention therefore also necessitates changes and restrictions in online spaces, without neglecting personal privacy.
Conclusion Overall, large-scale evaluations of existing prevention and intervention measures for cybergrooming have yet to be implemented. Knowledge of victims’ vulnerabilities as well as risk factors and strategies of offenders may be the key to more effective prevention and intervention measures.
