The growing understanding of the neurobiological underpinnings of sleep disorders has solidified sleep neurology as a distinct discipline. Concurrently, the increasing recognition of the detrimental effects of sleep disorders on brain function, body physiology, and the anticipated rise in the prevalence of neurodegenerative disorders has further emphasized the crucial role of sleep as an indispensable promoter of brain health.

Sleep neurology is not a static discipline and will require periodic revision of its fundamental principles. Over time, once-prevalent dogmas will gradually lose their prominence, while newer ones will emerge.

This issue of Seminars features invited reviews by renowned scholars who are shaping the field of sleep neurology. The diverse perspectives presented by authors highly esteemed for their contributions as clinicians, educators, and researchers not only provide comprehensive sections that meet the expectations of experts but also render themselves accessible to peers outside the authors' respective areas of expertise. During the planning of this issue, a primary focus was placed on ensuring the translatability of scientific principles for busy clinicians. Practical aspects related to the diagnosis and management of specific non-respiratory sleep conditions are addressed in authoritative yet succinct sections.

The thematic diversity of this issue is evident, and it shares a common thread of comprehensive review of neuroscience fundamentals supported by engaging illustrations. The range of topics of paramount importance encompasses the initial section on brain health, which provides a conceptual framework, followed by clinical chronobiology, hypersomnia, insomnia, cognitive disorders, parasomnias, restless legs syndrome, sleep neuroimmunology, and traumatic brain injury. Each section skillfully covers recent developments, equipping the neurologist with the necessary information to effectively manage these disorders.

One of the key factors contributing to the recognized reputation of the Seminars series is the selection of experts in the field. This issue will serve as an invaluable guide to the evaluation and treatment of major non-respiratory sleep disorders. Finally, I extend my sincere gratitude to the editor-in-chief, Dr. Greer, for his invaluable assistance, as well as the production editors.
