Diabetes im Kindes- und Jugendalter: Prävalenz und Inzidenz in Deutschland
Diabetes in childhood and adolescence: prevalence and incidence in Germany
Abstract
Diabetes in children and adolescents is continuously recorded in registers. In the last 20 years, the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has risen twice as fast as that of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Nevertheless, T1DM remains by far the predominant form of diabetes in children and adolescents (in 2022: 245 T1DM cases per 100 000 under 18-year-olds and 19 T2DM cases per 100 000 11- to 18-year-olds). Around 3 % of all cases of diabetes in children and adolescents are rare forms of diabetes. According to current estimates, 4700 under 18-year-olds are newly diagnosed with T1DM and 245 11- to 17-year-olds are newly diagnosed with T2DM every year in Germany. During the COVID-19 („coronavirus disease 2019“) pandemic, there was a wave-like increase and decrease in the incidence of T1DM and T2DM.
