Abstract

Nutritional aspects play an important role in irritable bowel syndrome. The majority of patients report food intolerances to cause or aggravate abdominal complaints. Despite the fact that these intolerances cannot always be objectified, dietetic interventions are of relevance in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome. Moreover, there is growing data on the use of probiotics in irritable bowel syndrome. The current review provides an update on nutritional interventions in irritable bowel syndrome.
