Significance

2-tert-Butylimino-2-diethylamino-1,3-dimethylperhydro-1,3,2-diazaphosphorine anchored on polystyrene (PS-BEMP) catalyzed the addition of nitroalkanes to α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds. Thus, Michael addition of nitromethane to α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds was carried out with 5 mol% of PS-BEMP under solvent-free conditions to give the corresponding γ-nitro compounds in 76-95% yield (14 examples).
