Significance

α,β-Enones are important functional units in many biologically active compounds. They are also precursors for various conjugate addition and cycloaddition reactions. This three-component coupling reaction represents a straightforward, atom-economical way of their synthesis. This elegant method is quite general and allows a direct construction of a relatively complex carbon framework from simple starting materials.
