Significance

The authors developed a method to synthesize the tin-functionalized benzosilole 5 starting from (o-alkynylphenyl)silane 1. Quenching the reaction mixture with NH4Cl after stannylation in hexane yielded product 4, while treatment with diethylether gave the desired compound 5, suggesting an equilibrium between 2 and 3. Running the stannylation in diethylether gave benzosilole 5 directly in 93% yield.
