Publication History

The 15th United Gastroenterology Week in France attracted an overwhelming number of participants, and proved how keen the interest in discourse and knowledge exchange on gastroenterologic topics is on an international level. The lively interest in the live video sessions and all of the offerings in the ESGE Learning Area, especially the talks in the Lecture Theatre and the Hands-on-Training on Biologic Models, is rewarding evidence that the ESGE plays an active role in promoting good endoscopy in Europe.

Postgraduate Teaching Programme

For the first time this year the Postgraduate Teaching Programme was developed jointly be ESGE, EASL, EAGE, ECCO, EDS, ESGAR and others. The ESGE was responsible for the endoscopic section of the teaching programme and stages parallel sessions on Saturday and Sunday, with Dr Jean-Francois Rey as course director. They included live demonstrations via satellite from the Hospital Ambroise Paré in Marseille, keynote lectures from leading experts in their fields, and an interactive course on Endoscopic Advances in Stenting and IBD.

ESGE Hands-On Training (HOT) on Biologic Models

The awareness of the ESGE hands-on training on Sunday at the UEGW was overwhelming and shows this activity has established itself as a core offering of the ESGE Learning Area. Here Lászlò Madácsy, Hungary and Brigitte Koch, Switzerland, guiding delegates through the procedures at the hemostasis station.

As in Berlin and Copenhagen the years before, hands-on training was offered in four 90 minute sessions on Sunday of the opening weekend at the UEGW. The ECE Training team from Erlangen, volunteer endoscopy experts from throughout Europe, nurses from ESGENA, as well as technicians from Olympus, Boston Scientific, Wilson Cook and ERBE, joined forces to create a high impact educational event for all the over 300 eager participants attracted to the training centre.
