Significance

The azaaromatic compound 2 was synthesized in three steps from 1,8-diaminonaphthalene in good yield. Compound 2 is shown to become both highly emissive and a good electron acceptor (Ered1 = -0.9 V, Ered2 = -1.3 V) upon protonation.
