Abstract
Current thinking on the mechanisms of ethylene perception and transduction is reviewed with particular emphasis on receptors, monomeric G-proteins and protein kinase cascades. The review seeks to reconcile some of the inconsistencies which appear to exist between molecular genetic and biochemical approaches and suggests that perception and transduction pathways are more complex than is generally recognised at present.
