Significance

A Ni-catalyzed intermolecular coupling of enones with alkynes is reported. In contrast to their aldehyde counterparts no ring closure is observed. Couplings with aromatic alkynes or ynoates proceed with high regioselectivities, whereas nonaromatic internal alkynes deliver product mixtures.
