Significance

Synthesizing chiral tertiary alcohols derived from the corresponding ketones by enantioselective addition of carbon nucleophiles is still a challenging task. The authors present a mild enantioselective addition of aryl groups to a variety of aromatic ketones and generate the corresponding tertiary alcohols in high yields and ee. Previous results of this group are described in K.-H. Wu, H.-M. Gau J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2006, 128, 14808.
