Significance

A large number of bioactive molecules possess an aminomethyl aryl linkage. Thus, methods for a direct introduction of an aminomethyl moiety into a molecule are highly desirable. The group of Molander developed an elegant solution to this problem using the cross-coupling reaction between stable solid potassium aminomethyltrifluoroborates and aryl halides. The method offers an excellent versatility and can be especially valuable in medicinal chemistry and adjacent fields.
