Significance

AIBN-mediated copolymerization of styrene, 4-substituted styrene, and 4-(diphenylphosphino)styrene gave the non-crosslinked soluble polystyrene-supported diphenylarylphosphines 1a-e (eq. 1). Similarly, polystyrene-supported 4-dialkylaminopyridines 2a-f were prepared (eq. 2). Intramolecular Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) reaction of 3 was carried out in the presence of catalyst 1c to give the MBH product 4 in 84% yield (eq. 3). Intermolecular MBH reaction of aldehyde 5 with 2-cyclohexene-1-one (6) was catalyzed by 2c to give the MBH product 7 in 72% yield (eq. 4).
