Significance

In this report, the first truly diastereoselective hydrogenation of alkenes and dienes is presented. Products are obtained with high level of diastereoselectivity and possess interchangeable functionalities at the terminal positions. This method is a very efficient route to 2,4-dimethyl dyads and 2,4,6-trimethyl triads which can be found in a significant number of natural products.
