Significance

During recent years, Kobayashi, Wang, Li and co-workers have extensively studied the aqueous Mukaiyama aldol reactions with various metals. The most recent examples include praseodymium (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2003, 125, 2989-2996) and gallium (Adv. Synth. Catal. 2005, 347, 1247-1256). In the present paper, the authors report a new hindered, lipophilic pybox ligand (t-BuPh2Si-protected) which is effective in iron(II) or zinc(II) catalysis.
