Significance

Monic acid is the major component of the pseudomonic acids, antibiotics produced by Pseudomonas fluorescens. An intramolecular modified Sakurai cyclization was integral to the synthesis of methyl monate C along with a diastereoselective Tsuji-Trost allylation.
