Significance

The Diels-Alder reaction is one of the synthetically most useful transformations in organic chemistry. However, some substrates, such as crotonates, remain problematic. In the course of solving this issue, the authors have studied the reactivity and the selectivity of various dienophiles substituted with achiral templates in a Cu(OTf)2-CP-IndaBOX catalyzed Diels-Alder reaction with cyclopentadiene.
