Primer Hydatid Cyst of Thymus: Report of a Case

Introduction

Hydatid cysts are usually located in the liver (55–70 %), lung (15–35 %) or brain (1.7 %) [1]. However, while hydatid disease may develop in almost any part of the body, the disease rarely occurs in the mediastinum (0.1 %) [2]. Because of nonspecific clinical findings, it is difficult to diagnose mediastinal cysts clinically. Thus, they remain asymptomatic for many years until the cyst becomes larger in size, with an increase of 1 cm per year [3]. The purpose of this paper was to report on a rare incidence of cystic disease in the mediastinum.
